Taking my son to this daycare was the most horrible experience for me. The staff were always more concerned with talking to each other or on their cell phones than playing with the kids. A few of them were constantly dressed inappropriately to be working in a daycare. The director was hardly there and never knew where anything was in her own office if I asked her for a copy of something. I would pick my son up and he would be filthy and have a wet diaper EVERYDAY!

Worst Day Care in Iowa city.Had my son there and he cried every morning when it was time to go to this place.Staff just sit and play with there cell phone.Very unapproprite Radio music played in classroom(staff seem to Enjoy it).Very unwelcoming.FYI just to have them print a copy of how much money you"ve paid for the year(when filing taxes) you pay $25!.Never had of this before.

I would not recommend this center to anyone! It is very disorganized and does not have a curriculum at all. I have walked in and children are being yelled at while the "teachers" sit at a table talking or playing on their phones. A lot of the teachers are students so your child will not have any regular caregiver to get attached to. Look elsewhere!

I cannot caution parents enough, DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE! This center was the most appaling thing I have ever witnessed. Please do not trust any positive reviews on this site, because they are most likely done by staff who aren't lying when they say their child goes there. Parents: keep looking for other childcare, don't subject your child to this.

I would NOT recommend taking your child to this center!! It was disorganized, chaotic, and unimpressive! The say that they director is there most times but in my experience with this place, she is only there a couple hours a day. Their lunches were rather unimpressive and often left overs from previous days. Inappropriate music is played in the upstairs. If you are looking for daycare for your children- DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE! Look elsewhere- It may seem like it is a really good place and everything may look good but its a different story completely!

My 2 boys go to this center, but only because it was my only option. When they first started, the teachers did nothing to welcome them or introduce them to the class and I felt horrible about leaving them there. The staff there are very nice, but there is little to no learning - the kids just play all day. The facility itself is not great either, with only a divider (not a wall) separating the 1 & 2 year old classes. Also, in addition to what you pay for tuition, you're expected to bring in breakfast and snack for the entire class once a month. The staff tells you what you will be bringing, and the items are usually fairly expensive. Since I have 2 kids in separate classes, this easily adds about $100/month to my bill. And they also expect parents to provide all the supplies (crayons, paper, kleenex, etc.). I have never seen this at any other daycare and think it's ridiculous to pay so much money in tuition, and then have to provide half the food and supplies as well. I will be moving my boys as soon as I can.

I have a child at this center and while things may seem a little chaotic in the mornings or during the lunch hour downstairs, the staff is very knowledgeable and aware at all times. The directors are very caring and I think in general the staff have a great relationship with each other which is important in creating a positive environment for the children.

I had my youngest daughter at this center at age 1, and was incredibly disappointed in the care she received. They were over-ratio every moring I dropped off, and when I finally told the director of the concern she said she didn't know that. I believe she corrected the problem, but I was not impressed by her lack of awareness. When I first started dropping off at this center, my daughter was a frightened one year old, and the staff did nothing to console her or help her adjust to the new environment. One teacher had her own child at the center, and she would sit and play with her own child, while six other infants sat around and I sat and cried with my daughter because I had to leave her at this facility until I could find a new center.

My son attends The Enchanted Neighboorhood. He had been previously attending an in home daycare that was over crowded and chaotic. It was a very difficult transition for my son because he had been attending the in home daycare for 2 years. The staff at The Enchanted Neighborhood made his transition smooth. He is doing very well at this daycare. It was definetly a change that needed to occur for him. Either Alicia, Carrie, or both of them are there every time I've stopped in. They both are very caring mothers themselves and are always willing to help in anyway they can. We are always greeted with a smile and occasionally some sweets for my son. If I've had a concern Alicia and Carrie were very willing to listen and do whatever was necessary to handle the situation. Stop in for a visit and see for yourself!

I did not take my child here because my impression of the center was unfavorable. I went home and nearly cried, saddened by the care that children were receiving and I didn't even know them. It was a rather chaotic environment in the "basement". The upstairs rooms where the older children are was a complete opposite situation and I was surprised at the contrast. I would not take my child here if it was the last place on earth. I did not rate it 1 star just because I never actually enrolled my child there.

I have three kids that goes to this daycare befor and after school program and i have been with them for almost four years and as a parent i really love this daycare and all the staff. And any problem that my kids or i have there ia alway taken care of by some of the best daycare staff and directors and supervisors in the world. And i would recomend anyone to take their kids there where they can get the best care for their children besides home. Alicia and Carrie are the best directors in the world and would go out of their way to help out anyone that needs help. So yes the best daycare ever THE ENCHANTED NEIGHBORHOOD IS THE BEST.And i would NEVER pull my KID out and put them in someone else hands. As a parent Enchanted will live on. Thank yall so much for everything for the last four almost five years. THANKS AT WHOLE LOT GUYS

I have been happy with this center for 8 years. I have had 3 kids go through and have enjoyed everything. The teachers are all very caring and loving. I would reccommend this center to anyone who wants to know their kids are well cared for. I also would like to comment on the fact that there is always someone there I can talk to, director, assistant director or on-site supervisor, not many centers have this many supervisors under 1 roof.

I agree, your first impression is good one but today I witnessed a negative situation in the 2 yr old room. I went upsatairs to report the situation. The director I spoke to was more interested in eating her cupcake than what was going on downstairs! We are looking for a different daycare!

5 starsBrandi, Iowa City, April 22, 2009

The owner has a big heart and the teachers are wonderful. There is a variey of children that go through their program and no matter the situation Alicia always can work something out. She doesn't charge high fees and always has a smile on her face. My daughter has a unique group of friends that she will never forget and their Holiday Programs are very delightful. Would recommend to anyone. Parent involvment is key into a great education and if anyone was really involved they would see that they have a great group of educators!

The first impressions of this facility are usually good. You are told that the director is usually there and it always appears to be a decent place. Once you get behind the doors though, things change a bit, I do not recommend it!
